Title: Cancer Control Project Manager, Full Time

Salary: $28.00 - $33.00 per hour

 

General Summary:

This position is responsible for the overall development and implementation for Fond du Lac Reservation’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. This includes developing and maintaining a strong collaborative partnership team (Fond du Lac Wiidookaage Cancer Team) to join together in developing, updating and implementing the “Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Wiidookaage Cancer Plan” strategic plan for cancer control, coordinating related initiatives impacting the Fond du Lac community and beyond, building productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support program objectives, communicating with stakeholders about program activities, and evaluating the program. This position is highly technical and serves as the primary liaison with CDC for the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, leads grant activities development and organizes reporting to CDC as required by the Cooperative Agreement.

Position Responsibilies:

  • Participates in the planning, development and implementation of agency programs.
  • Focuses on comprehensive cancer prevention and cancer control within the Fond du Lac (FDL) service population.
  • Collaborates with FDL Cancer Program Director in ongoing development and implementation of FDL’s Cancer Program.
  • Conducts searches for current information on cancer burden within American Indian population and specifically in the FDL service population, cancer prevention, cancer control, treatment modalities and supportive follow-up for clients with cancer disease.
  • Maintains a high degree of scientific knowledge about cancer control activities, evidenced based practices for cancer control and prevention across the cancer continuum from prevention to detection to treatment to survivor to quality of life and palliative care including end-of-life care. Interprets and evaluates this information to determine appropriateness for the FDL Cancer Program.
  • Distributes cancer information to cancer program partners, both internal and external and other entities involved with American Indian/Alaska Native Cancer programs.
  • Develops systems to organize data, materials, resources related to cancer prevention, control and current treatment modalities and interprets cancer data and materials in relation to the FDL service population.
  • Is knowledgeable about Policy, Systems and Environment Changes as they relate to developing and implementing sustainable interventions to prevent and control cancer with the FDL population.
  • Assesses cancer burden within the FDL service population.
  • Assesses FDL community members for perceptions of cancer disease.
  • Assesses support services available through FDL HSD services for cancer clients.
  • Develops a network including FDL HSD health and social services providers, state, county, and other agencies with cancer prevention and control as a common issue for support in planning and implementing the comprehensive cancer control plan for the FDL service population: “The FDL Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Wiidookaage Cancer Plan.”
  • Organizes and coordinates activities of the FDL Wiidookaage Cancer Team. Oversees quarterly FDL Wiidookaage Cancer Team Meetings.
  • Is responsible for implementation of Cancer Program’s Grant Performance Measures, participates in all required communications and trainings as required by grant.
  • Represents the FDL Cancer Program on Centers for Disease Control conference calls and coordinates CDC Site Visits.
  • Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary system to address cancer prevention, control and support services within the FDL service community.
  • Explores resources available to educate the FDL community about all aspects of cancer.
  • Provides education related to cancer prevention, control and supportive resources to FDL staff, clients with cancer disease, their families and the community.
  • Supports Cancer Program staff in developing cancer related community activities and assists in arranging appropriate cancer related trainings for staff.
  • Evaluates outcomes of activities developed to address cancer issues within the FDL service population.
  • Monitors grant budget expenditures and plans budgetary needs to remain within budget parameters.
  • Completes all reports and other documents required by CDC for successful implementation of a CDC National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program.
  • Appropriate work attire is required.
  • Must attend all mandatory department meetings and trainings.
  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal physical requirements.

Position Qualifications:

  • Class D Driver’s License required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Nursing, Public Health, or related public health field with recent experience in health-related program planning and implementation is required.
  • Public Health Nurse Certification is preferred.
  • Two years' public health experience is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience managing public health related grants is required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
  • Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
  • Experience working with Native American clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required.
  • Ability to plan, develop and implement a system addressing a complex health issue requiring attention to prevention, control and treatment of disease is required.
  • Ability to conduct a search for data and information is required.
  • Ability to organize data, maintain records, compile reports, and plan activities surrounding a complex health issue is required.
  • Ability to network with individuals and agencies within local agency and community, county, state, and regional organizations to build a supportive relationship to address a complex health issue is required.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve a planned outcome is required.
  • Non-smoker required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
