Substance Use Disorder Assistant Coordinator, Full Time

Location: FDL Human Services

General Summary:

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Assistant Coordinator will assist the department Coordinator with supervision of staff and the management of department programs; and provide counseling to manage overall load of the department.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Screen and accept referrals from coordinating agencies, Fond du Lac providers, courts and individuals.
  • Schedule appointments as needed.
  • Complete and submit reports promptly.
  • Inform SUD staff of requirements, changes in procedures, assignments and general administrative information from the SUD Coordinator.
  • Manage communications and department business in the absence of the department coordinator.
  • Attend department and committee meetings as requested.
  • Manage special assignments such as program evaluations, research or CQI studies as requested.
  • Assist SUD Coordinator with grant writing, reporting, monitoring and implementing.
  • Assist SUD Coordinator with completing reports, studies, correspondence and documentation as directed.
  • Assist SUD Coordinator in modifying program scope of work and budget.
  • Assist the SUD Coordinator in the supervision of the SUD Department employees to include the selection and retention of subordinates, approving and disapproving leave requests, evaluating performance, determining needs, scheduling, disciplining, etc. as assigned.
  • Travels between multiple Human Services division work locations.
  • Assist with transporting clients as needed.
  • Appropriate work attire required.
  • Must attend mandatory department trainings.
  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
  • Assist with managing Tribal Support, Indian Health Services (I.H.S.), and grant budgets.
  • Assist in supervision of SUD staff located at Center for American Indian Resources, Min No Aya Win Human Services, Min No Wii Jii Win, Tagwii Recovery Center, 2020 Bloomington Ave Minneapolis and other satellite programs.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal physical requirements.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Human Services related field with two or more years of supervision experience is required.
  • Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Fond du Lac Alcohol and Drug Counselor III or higher is required.
  • CPR certification is required; if not certified at the time of hire, employee must become certified within 6 months of hire, and must maintain certification for duration of employment.
  • Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
  • Three to five years’ experience working with Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is required.
  • Three to five years’ experience working with Native American clients, communities, and the ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required.
  • Position requires on call availability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
  • Some travel may be required.
