Anishinaabe Izhitwaawin Ganawenjigewin Ozhibii’igewigamig, or the Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO), is the Fond du Lac government entity responsible for the protection, preservation and management of the Band’s cultural resources. The Tribal Historic Preservation Officer advises the Reservation Business Committee and its various divisions, programs and enterprises, other tribal organizations and entities, individuals, the U.S. federal, state, and local governments and private organizations on matters pertaining to cultural resource preservation on Band lands and on lands in which the Fond du Lac Band has an historical interest.

The THPO conducts review and consultation related to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), maintaining Fond du Lac’s Cultural Database and the Fond du Lac National Register of Cultural Properties. Further, the Office completes cultural review and permitting for projects within the external boundaries of the reservation.
